Time to Reset: Dr. Benji Dhillon’s Post-Summer Wellness Guide

Time to Reset: Dr. Benji Dhillon’s Post-Summer Wellness Guide

Summer is now behind us, and we’re racing headfirst into Autumn. For many of us, this season brings mixed emotions. Some thrive on the return to routine, while others miss the joy of long summer evenings and slower-paced days.

As I’ve become (ahem) older - or wiser - I’ve noticed that the transition back to “normal life” after summer feels more stressful than it once did. With four children and a business to run, re-establishing routines, balancing school runs, and managing day-to-day life can feel like a lot. That said, I do actually enjoy the buzz of school runs and the sense of order returning.

But let’s be honest - Autumn also means the return of those little “gifts” our children bring home: colds, sniffles, and bugs. That’s why this is not the time to take our foot off the pedal when it comes to looking after ourselves. In fact, this is when it matters most.

My Autumn Wellness Tips

Over the years, I’ve learned a few simple but powerful strategies that make all the difference at this time of year:

Protect Your Sleep

Your sleep routine underpins everything else - energy, mood, immunity, and focus. Keep to regular sleep patterns as best as you can, even when life feels hectic.

Eat Well & Avoid “Stress Crutches”

It’s easy to skip meals or reach for too much caffeine or alcohol when stress levels rise. I’ve been guilty of it too! But eating consistently and nourishing your body helps you cope better.

Move Your Body

Over the summer, I managed to stay consistent with fitness, sleep, and nutrition. Heading into Autumn, I’m doubling down on those habits. This season can feel like a non-stop sprint towards Christmas, so investing in my health now means I’ll hopefully reach the holidays feeling energised rather than depleted.

Support Yourself with the Right Supplements

Autumn is when I pay extra attention to both stress management and immunity.

  • For stress and anxiety, I’ve had great experiences with Ashwagandha - a natural adaptogen that helps the body handle stressful times.
  • For immune health, I recommend keeping an eye on your Vitamin C, Zinc, and Vitamin B12 levels. These are small but mighty nutrients that support your body’s defences.

If you’re unsure where to start, my good friends at W-Wellness have excellent options to help you stay supported through the season.

Autumn is a beautiful season, but it’s also busy, demanding, and full of transitions. Don’t forget to pause and look after yourself, even while you’re taking care of everyone else. By protecting your health and energy now, you’ll be in a far better place to enjoy the festive season when it arrives.

Here’s to a strong, balanced, and healthy Autumn!
