Endometriosis: Why It’s More Than “Just Bad Periods”

Endometriosis: Why It’s More Than “Just Bad Periods”

March marks Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on a condition that affects an estimated 1 in 10 women in the UK, yet is still widely misunderstood, underdiagnosed and often dismissed.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it commonly on the ovaries, fallopian tubes and pelvic lining. Unlike the uterine lining, this tissue has no way to exit the body. The result? Inflammation, pain and, for many women, years of being told their symptoms are “normal”.

Endometriosis is not just painful periods. It can present as chronic pelvic pain, painful ovulation, pain during or after sex, heavy or irregular bleeding, bloating, digestive disruption, fatigue and fertility challenges. On average in the UK, it can take many years to receive a diagnosis and that delay can take both a physical and emotional toll.

From a nutritional and wellbeing perspective, endometriosis is a complex, inflammatory condition influenced by hormones, immune function and the gut microbiome. Oestrogen plays a key role in driving endometrial tissue growth, which is why supporting healthy oestrogen metabolism can be part of a wider management approach. Blood sugar balance is also relevant, as insulin resistance can influence inflammatory pathways and hormonal signalling.

While nutrition is not a cure, it can be a powerful supportive tool. Many women benefit from focusing on an anti-inflammatory dietary pattern rich in colourful vegetables, omega-3 fats, fibre and high-quality protein. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale and rocket  can help support oestrogen detoxification pathways. Omega-3 fatty acids from oily fish or supplementation may help modulate inflammatory processes. Ensuring adequate magnesium, zinc and B vitamins can also support hormonal resilience.

Gut health is another important consideration. There is growing interest in the “estrobolome” the collection of gut bacteria involved in oestrogen metabolism. Supporting microbial diversity through fibre, fermented foods and, where appropriate, targeted probiotics may play a role in overall hormonal balance.

Beyond food and supplements, stress management matters. Chronic stress can amplify inflammation and pain perception. Gentle movement, restorative exercise and prioritising sleep are not luxuries, they are foundational.

Most importantly, women with endometriosis deserve to be listened to. Severe pain is not something to push through or normalise. If symptoms are affecting daily life, further investigation is warranted.

At W-Wellness, we believe endometriosis care should be multi-layered: medical support, nutritional strategy and compassionate self-care.

Supplements to consider:

Wild Nutrition Food-Grown® Endo Support is formulated using their Food-Grown® nutrient approach, meaning the vitamins and minerals are delivered in a form bonded to food compounds to support absorption and gentler assimilation.

The formula is built around three key areas relevant to endometriosis: hormonal regulation, inflammation and nutrient repletion. Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity and can be supportive where PMS-type symptoms, mood shifts or oestrogen imbalance are present. Zinc plays a role in immune function and cellular repair, while magnesium supports muscle relaxation and nervous system balance - helpful where pelvic tension and stress are factors.

Iron is included at 10mg, which is particularly relevant for women experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding, while vitamin E provides antioxidant protection to help buffer oxidative stress. Choline, methionine and betaine hydrochloride support methylation and liver pathways involved in oestrogen metabolism, and N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is included for its role in glutathione production and inflammatory balance an area of growing interest in endometriosis support.

Altogether, it’s a targeted, nutrient-dense formula designed to work alongside medical care and a personalised nutrition plan, offering structured daily support for women managing the systemic demands of endometriosis.

MyOva EndoPLUS is a thoughtfully formulated, plant-powered blend created specifically for women living with endometriosis. Its core focus is supporting healthy inflammatory pathways, using highly standardised turmeric (95% curcuminoids), boswellia (65% boswellic acids) and ginger, botanicals with a long history of use for pelvic comfort and cycle support.

It also layers in antioxidant protection with green tea extract and resveratrol to help protect cells from oxidative stress, alongside reishi and schisandra to support resilience. Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity, normal psychological function and reduction of tiredness and fatigue - areas many women with endometriosis struggle with.

EndoPLUS is not positioned as a quick fix, but as consistent, daily support - two vegan capsules, designed to gently complement a wider nutrition and lifestyle approach
