How to Survive The Festive Party Season

How to Survive The Festive Party Season

The festive season is in full swing and while it's a time for celebration, it does require a balance between enjoying the parties and prioritising physical and mental health. With packed social schedules, hosting duties, heavy meals and indulging in one too many glasses of fizz, you might already be feeling the effects of overcommitment and overindulgence.

But feeling your best doesn’t mean missing out. Here’s how to enjoy the party season with minimal recovery.

Stay hydrated

We all know we should drink more water, but a few nights of salty canapés and Champagne can leave you with a pounding headache and dehydrated-led tiredness the next day. Prevent that sluggish feeling by alternating every cocktail or glass of wine with a full glass of water. If you’re someone who is prone to hangovers, prep ahead. Stir an electrolyte powder into your water before heading out, or carry Humantra Electrolyte Powder Sachets, which are essential for on-the-go hydration. If you wake up feeling a bit queasy, a warm cup of ginger tea can calm the stomach.

Give your liver a hand

The liver works overtime during the party season. As well as breaking down alcohol, it helps process nutrients and manage oxidative stress. During busy December weeks, support it by moderating alcohol intake and choosing lighter meals when possible.

Supplements containing milk thistle, such as Fushi Organic Milk Thistle, are often used to aid liver function and ease inflammation during periods of overindulgence. Compounds like NAC (N-Acetyl L-Cysteine), which is a precursor to glutathione – one of the body's most important antioxidants – may also help the liver manage to process toxins more efficiently - find it in Cytoplan NAC.

Keep your digestion running smoothly

The combination of party food and lack of routine can take a toll on the gut, causing bloating or constipation. Probiotics, particularly strains like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, are often used to settle bloating. Optibac Everyday is a great option. If constipation is a concern, magnesium citrate can encourage regular bowel movements. Between events, try to stick to your usual meal schedule and include fibre-rich foods - they support digestion, fill you up and reduce the urge to snack on leftover mince pies. If you have a moment between events, a quick walk or workout can do wonders for digestion and mood.

Don't skimp on sleep

Prioritising sleep and recovery is non-negotiable. Even if you’ve had a late night, try to get up at your normal time the next day - it’s better for your body clock than a long lie-in that can leave you groggy. If you have trouble winding down, Ancient + Brave True Nightcap is formulated with magnesium, choline and L-glycine to calm the nervous system and promote a deeper rest. For the morning after, swap your regular caffeine for an adaptogenic coffee like London Nootropics Flow Adaptogenic Coffee to boost alertness.

Above all, remember to block some time out for yourself between festive gatherings - it’s the best way to enjoy the season, rather than just survive it.
