Dr Benji Dhillon: My Journey - Striving for Wellness

Welcome to the first in a series of blogs where I’ll be sharing my personal journey toward better wellness. In this post, I want to explore two things: what wellness means to me, and how I took the first small - yet impactful - steps on my path.

 

Why Am I Doing This?

Because I truly believe anyone can begin this journey - no matter how busy, tired, or financially stretched you are. Wellness isn’t a luxury reserved for the few; it’s a realistic goal that starts with small, consistent changes.

 

What Does Wellness Mean to Me?

For me, wellness is about feeling better both physically and mentally. And I’ve come to believe that it all starts with the physical. When your body feels strong, energised, and well-nourished, your mind tends to follow.

So how do we optimise our physical wellbeing? The answer sounds simple:

  • Eat cleaner
  • Move more
  • Drink more water

I can already hear some of you thinking:
“I don’t have time for that.”
“My schedule is packed.”
“My kids take over my life.”

Trust me - I get it.

I’m a hands-on father of four, I run two businesses (one in the UK and one in the US), manage a team of over 40 people across two countries, and maintain a loving relationship with my wife of nearly 18 years. Am I superhuman? Absolutely not.

But what I do believe in is the power of marginal gains.

Start Small. Stay Consistent.

Begin by making small improvements across three core pillars:

  • Exercise
  • Nutrition
  • Hydration

Start with just ten minutes of movement a day. That’s it. Then gradually build on it. Apply the same approach to cleaner eating and drinking more water.

One tool that’s helped me stay on track is my Apple Watch - but any fitness tracker will do. These devices help you stay motivated by setting goals and tracking progress.

In just a short time, I began to notice changes. Science supports  the fact that improving your physical wellbeing will improve your mental emotional wellbeing. You’ll handle life’s inevitable challenges with more clarity, resilience, and energy.

 

My Journey: One Step at a Time

I started with the basics. A short walk. A five-minute workout. Nothing extreme. But over time, these tiny actions snowballed. I began blocking out time in my calendar to hit the gym three times a week and squeeze in a run at least once a week.

As I got more active, I naturally wanted to eat better to perform better. One habit fed into the next.

Curious to push further, I began researching supplements to support my goals: increasing energy, enhancing recovery after workouts, and improving sleep quality. After trial, error, and research, I found a routine that worked for me - and honestly, it’s taken my wellness to a whole new level.

 

You’re on Your Own Journey

Remember, everyone’s path looks different - and that’s okay. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Don’t pressure yourself to sprint from the start. Allow yourself to crawl, walk, and then run - at your own pace - toward your version of wellness.

You deserve to feel your best. And it all starts with a single step.
