As a naturopathic nutritionist and W-Wellness Expert, I’ve experienced firsthand how our bodies and minds are deeply intertwined - especially when the seasons change. August, marks the shift into a new season, the return of ‘back to school’ and routines. It invites us to pause and recalibrate.
But let’s be honest, in the chaos of daily life, finding time for ‘mindful moments’ often feels like another thing on the to-do list. It can also add pressure to feel perfect, which is the opposite intention.
That’s why I want to offer you something different. Let’s integrate mindfulness in a way that’s simple, and habit-stacks. One that fits into your busy day without adding to your to-do list.
These are micro moments, small pauses that gently support your hormonal balance, digestion, skin health and mental clarity. They’re manageable, nourishing and designed to help you reconnect with your body, even if you’re juggling a million things.
As I love to remind my clients, my online community and first and foremost myself(!): mindfulness isn’t about perfect ‘10 step routines’ or sitting in silence cross legged on the floor (unless that’s your thing of course). To me, it’s the small but intentional acts that bring you back to yourself, helping you thrive from the inside out as we transition through the seasons.
6 mindful moments to try today:
1. Step outside with your morning (loaded) hydration
Even just a few minutes of natural sunlight and fresh air first thing can reset your circadian rhythm and noticeably boost your mood (thanks to the serotonin boost from the natural light). Habit-stack this by rehydrating your body at cellular with ARTAH Cellular Hydration level - supporting your brain, skin and digestive health (thanks to the optimal ratio of electrolytes including magnesium and potassium as well as vitamin C and inulin to set you up for the day ahead mentally and physically).
2. Add a mini facial massage to your skincare routine
Taking an extra 30 seconds to massage your face helps stimulate circulation, promote lymphatic drainage and supports skin health while giving you a little pause in the morning /evening. Plus, there is something so lovely about touch and connecting with yourself like this. I use VOTARY Super Seed Facial Oil for a nourishing complexion boost and a few seconds of habit-stacked me time!
3. Practice mindful breathing while your hot drink cools down
Three deep, slow grounding breaths whilst rubbing some hand cream into your hands, nails and cuticles as you either wait for the kettle to boil or for your hot drink to cool down, is one of my favourite ways to add-in a moment to properly pause, calm the nervous system and support mental clarity (not to mention to soften and hydrate hands!) especially in a busy working day. I’m currently obsessed with VERDEN Herbanun Handcream which pairs perfectly with this micro-mindfulness moment.
4. Sneak-in gentle movement and listen to something uplifting
Sneaking in a walk wherever possible is an easy way to increase your movement and steps for the day. It brings you into healing sunlight and fresh air, and the movement helps digestion and reduces stress. I love to habit-stack this with listening to a podcast or audiobook, even if its 5 mins. Talking of digestive health, if things feel a little off I love to support my digestive tract with Thera Nordic Rezcue - it combines zinc carnosine and L-glutamine - two nutrients that have been studied for their role in gastrointestinal wellbeing.
5. Jot down one thing you’re grateful for when you feel overwhelmed
Gratitude resets your mind and emotional balance, creating the biggest mental shift. My friend once told me to create a list on my phone of things I’m grateful for. When I’m having a hard day or struggling, I look at this list and try to add one additional thing. It’s such a tiny but oh so powerful mind transition and one I highly recommend!
6. Legs up the wall
Low lights, phone in another room (game-changer) and a quick warm bath before bed with heavenly Olverum Bath Oil signals the body to wind down and to start prepping for sleep mode. You’ll feel renewed! To take my evening wind-down one step further, I highly recommend Dreem Distillery CBD Night Drops. I also to put my legs up the wall for 15ish mins (or however long I have tie for). This helps with lymphatic drainage, digestion and activates calm in body and mind.
Mindfulness doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to be possible. Don’t compare your routine to others in a different season to you. Focus on yourself and give these micro moments a go. Personally, they make a big difference to how I feel when life feels full, helping to nourish, balance and thrive as the season shifts.
